In a harrowing display of targeted violence two people were stabbed in Golders Green, London on April 29th.
Eyewitnesses reported a man armed with a knife chasing members of the Jewish community along Golders Green Road before—in rapid, community-based defence—he was intercepted by the Shomrim neighborhood watch group.
The 45-year-old suspect was physically detained by Shomrim volunteers until Metropolitan Police officers arrived and deployed a taser to secure the arrest.
Both victims, one man in his 70s and another in his 30s, were immediately treated by Hatzola, the Jewish volunteer ambulance service, and are reported to be in stable condition. This attack marks the latest escalation in a wave of antisemitic incidents across London, prompting Shadow Home Secretary Chris Philp to demand an urgent crackdown on Islamist extremism and foreign state-sponsored terror tactics.
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer condemned the incident in a post on X:
The antisemitic attack in Golders Green is utterly appalling. Attacks on our Jewish community are attacks on Britain.
The PM’s comments follow a sharp statement from Israel’s Foreign Ministry, which urged the UK government to take swift action against antisemitism:
After attacks on synagogues, Jewish institutions, community ambulances, and now Jews targeted in Golders Green, the UK government can no longer claim the situation is under control.
The Ministry further criticized the government’s response, adding that
Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s statements are no substitute for confronting the roots of antisemitism festering across the United Kingdom… Enough words. The UK must act decisively and urgently.
There is a protest scheduled to take place in Golders Green later this evening, organised by campaigners against semitism Our Fight.
