The left-wing parties of the European Parliament have announced they want the European Commission to finance globalist NGOs whose U.S. funding has been cut by Donald Trump’s administration.
In a letter to all the members of the European Parliament, MEPs from the socialist, the liberal, and the Green groups are urging their colleagues to sign a letter to the Commission to plead for increased funding for leftist non-governmental organisations.
“They basically want Brussels to use EU taxpayers’ money to fill the gap for the agenda of these so-called ‘NGOs’, which are financed on ideological grounds and serve the political interests of the liberal elite,” Hungarian MEP Kinga Gál of the right-wing Patriots for Europe group tweeted, attaching a copy of the letter to her post on her X social media account.
Left-wing groups in the @Europarl_EN have written to the @EU_Commission calling on it to take over funding for NGOs and media outlets after the USAID shutdown.

One of the first acts of the new, Donald Trump-led U.S. Administration was to dismantle USAID, the main aid agency of the United States.
The agency’s primary responsibility was to manage foreign aid programmes, but it was exposed by Trump’s team as spreading globalist progressivism abroad and working to undermine elected governments not favoured by the previous liberal Washington administration.
Conservative-sovereignist governments and parties in Europe—such as in Hungary, Poland, and Slovakia—have been outraged by the revelations, and have vowed to take action against foreign interference in their domestic affairs.
The leftist MEPs, however, claim that the withdrawal of U.S. funds will mean that “important services supporting human rights, democracy, media freedom, and social inclusion could be at risk.”
In other words: organisations and media outlets that have willingly accepted foreign money, called themselves ‘independent,’ and promoted globalist, pro-migration, pro-abortion, radical climate and woke policies, would now be supported by European taxpayers’ money, if the Left had their way.
“This is not about civil society, but about an undemocratic attempt at external interference,” Hungarian Patriots MEP Csaba Dömötör said. As he pointed out, many so-called “civil organisations” shut down the moment U.S. funding stopped—proving they were anything but independent.
But even without the support of U.S. funds, many left-wing NGOs are thriving due to the billions of euros in public funds that the European Commission has been channeling to finance them.
As a report by MCC Brussels recently revealed, “the Commission funds organisations that are economically dependent on its grants and that act as spokespersons for its agenda”—such as the promotion of deeper EU integration, the fight against eurosceptic narratives, and interference in the internal politics of certain member states.
