With parliamentary elections coming up in the Czech Republic in October, a new poll puts the patriotic opposition ANO movement in first place.
According to the latest survey, ANO, led by former Prime Minister Andrej Babiš, would take approximately 31.5% of the vote—down by 1.4 points from the previous measurement, but still holding a commanding lead.
The governing Europhile centre-right Spolu coalition trails behind at 20.8%, showing a modest decline of 0.4 points.
Meanwhile, the anti-immigration right-wing SPD is on the rise, polling at 13.8%.
The numbers suggest that ANO, which has challenged the government on issues such as migration and the European Green Deal, has a better chance of forming a government. It’s potential coalition partners are the SPD or the left-wing Enough! Alliance which is polling at 7.5%.
An Andrej Babiš-led government would mean a strengthened alliance between the Czech Republic and the sovereignist governments of Hungary and Slovakia.
