Iconic American actress Diane Keaton, probably best known for her Oscar-winning performance in Woody Allen’s 1977 Annie Hall, passed away at the age of 79 on Saturday.
Her family confirmed on Saturday evening that she died in California and did not provide further information relating to her death, asking for privacy during this time, according to a family spokesman who spoke with People magazine.
Keaton became famous after starring as as Kay Adams, wife of Michael Corleone (played by Al Pacino) in The Godfather trilogy, as well as thanks to her collaborations with Woody Allen, such as Play It Again, Sam, and Radio Days. She won an Oscar as Best Actress for her role as Allen’s love interest in Annie Hall.
She made as many as eight films with Allen, including 1979’s Manhattan.
The acress also won three times the British Academy Film Awards’ (BAFTA) Best Actress award, and two Golden Globe awards. She was also nominated for the Oscar three times for best actress, for Reds, Marvin’s Room and Something’s Gotta Give.
Diane Keaton was born Diane Hall in Los Angeles on January 5, 1946. She was romantically involved with Woody Allen, Al Pacino and Warren Beatty, but she never married. She is survived by her two children, Dexter and Duke.
