At least 24 people were killed when a bomb exploded on a train carrying Pakistani security staff in Balochistan.

On Sunday, May 24th an explosive device hit a shuttle train transporting Pakistani defense staff and their families in the country’s southwestern province of Balochistan, officials said, in the latest major assault claimed by the separatist militant group Baloch Liberation Army.

The detonation claimed at least 24 lives and injured around 70, according to three provincial government sources, who spoke on the condition of anonymity as they are not authorized to speak to the media.

The incident was the latest in a series of strikes on transit networks, armed forces, and infrastructure in the mineral-rich region bordering Iran and Afghanistan, where Islamabad has launched counterinsurgency operations following some of the deadliest violence in years.
