Orbán said he respects the festival organizers but insisted Hungary won’t allow “verbal attacks.”

In his regular radio interview on Hungarian public radio on Friday, July 25th, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán was asked to comment on the government’s decision to ban the Irish rap band Kneecap, accused of antisemitism.

Responding to criticism from Sziget Festival organisers, who warned the move could damage Hungary’s international reputation, Orbán said he respects those who organise concerts and festivals but was “irked” because of their inviting the group. He said they should have known better and questioned whether financial gain should have been their number one concern.

He stressed that in Hungary, “no one should be verbally attacked,” adding:

You’d better not come here, my friend, if you cannot respect that.
