U.S. president Donald Trump tried to increase the pressure on Iran at a briefing on Wednesday, June 10th, by claiming the Islamic Republic is taking too long to negotiate peace.
Stating Iran will ‘have to pay the price’ for its sluggish ways, Trump promised further strikes (on top of an existing pattern of ‘defensive’ activities). Both nations have continued to exchange threats, despite the fragile ceasefire formally in place since April. Just prior to Trump’s latest remarks, a U.S. official claimed almost 20 Iranian targets were struck, including radar facilities.
According to state media, one part of Iran hit hard was the southern port town of Sirik, in U.S. strikes on two nearby reservoirs:
following this attack, 20,000 residents of the region have lost access to safe drinking water, and—with temperatures ranging between 45 and 50 degrees C—conditions have become extremely difficult and critical for local inhabitants.
Elsewhere India condemned, without naming culprits, strikes on an oil tanker which caused the loss of three of its seafarers off the coast of Oman.
Amid the localised chaos, an apparently optimistic Trump sought to force Iran to conclude the drawn-out peace negotiations, stating on his social media accounts
Iran is all talk and no action. They have taken too long to negotiate a deal that would have been great for them, now they will have to pay the price!!!
