A 22-year-old male was violently assaulted in Golders Green, north London, in the early hours of Monday, May 18th in an antisemitic hate crime. The victim, who was visiting from Israel and asked not to be fully identified, said he was attacked by a group of around five men while speaking on the phone in Hebrew.
“They kicked me like an animal and didn’t stop,” he told the BBC, adding that his attackers repeatedly asked if he was Jewish. He suffered injuries to his face, neck, and back and was taken to hospital for treatment before being discharged. No arrests have been made.
The assault comes amid a broader rise in antisemitic incidents in London and follows a separate violent attack in the same area on April 29th. In that incident, two Jewish men—one in his 70s and another in his 30s—were stabbed after a suspect reportedly chased them and other members of the community along Golders Green Road. The attacker was intercepted and detained by volunteers from the Shomrim neighbourhood watch group before police arrived and used a taser to arrest the 45-year-old man.
Both victims were treated at the scene by Hatzola, a Jewish volunteer ambulance service, and were reported to be in stable condition.
