A shared political platform seems designed to steer a right-wing coalition pact through four years of stable regional government.

A coalition agreement in Andalucía was signed on Thursday, July 2nd, between Spain’s formally conservative People’s party (PP) and its populist rival VOX.

Both parties appear committed to “national priority in accessing public benefits,” by putting Spanish citizens first. The pact rejects the immigration policies of Spain’s socialist-led central government under Pedro Sánchez. It also:

  • states Andalucía will not accept any more unaccompanied migrant minors;
  • opposes “the imposition of ideological agendas when it comes to caring for the environment”;
  • defends intensive livestock farming “in the face of criminalisation from the animal rights lobby and the climate policies developed in Brussels”;
  • would protect and preserve bullfighting;
  • replace “justice, reparation, and dignity” legislation introduced four years ago—concerning the civil war and Franco governments—with a so-called “harmony law.”
