Sweden: Alleged Spy Set To Stand Trial

A man with military access to classified information is suspected of arranging a meeting with Russian intelligence personnel.

A man with military access to classified information is suspected of arranging a meeting with Russian intelligence personnel.

Wednesday June 10th saw Swedish prosecutors charge a former armed forces employee with attempting to spy for Russia.

The suspect, a 34-year-old man in detention since January, was told he will stand trial in Stockholm from June 15th. According to prosecutor Mats Ljungqvist

The suspect attempted to disclose [classified information] by travelling to Moscow in November 2025 and meeting with representatives of the Russian intelligence and security service there.

The announcement comes a month after Stockholm published plans to launch its own revamped intelligence service from January 2027.
