Iran’s revolutionary guards said they intercepted two vessels in the Strait of Hormuz and diverted them into Iranian waters in response to alleged rule violations.

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced on Wednesday, April 22 that its naval forces intercepted two ships attempting to cross the Strait of Hormuz, directing them into the Islamic Republic’s territorial waters.

Authorities identified one vessel as the “MSC-FRANCESCA,” which they claimed belongs to the “Zionist regime”—Islamist verbiage for Israel. The second ship, the “EPAMINONDAS,” was accused of “tampering with navigation systems and jeopardizing maritime security.”

The IRGC further warned against any actions that breach the regulations imposed by the Islamic Republic in the Strait, as well as any “activities contrary to the safe passage” through the waterway.
