Ukraine has urged Bulgaria’s incoming government not to weaken the EU’s support for Kyiv, following the election of Rumen Radev, who has signalled a more cautious approach to the conflict.
While Radev opposes sending Bulgarian arms to Ukraine, he has said he would not use Sofia’s veto to block EU-wide decisions, indicating that Bulgaria will remain engaged within the bloc’s framework.
In comments published on Wednesday, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha told reporters:
“As for Bulgaria, we want to proceed from the premise that the track of good-neighborly relations will be preserved.”
He added that Kyiv hopes “Bulgaria’s position will remain consistent in terms of supporting Ukraine on many fronts: from territorial integrity to our membership in the European Union.”
