The European Conservatives and Reformists (ECR) group in the EU Parliament has welcomed two new members, Diego Solier Fernández and Nora Junco García, from the anti-establishment Spanish political party The Party Is Over (SALF). The addition brings the ECR’s total to 80 members, solidifying its position as the fourth-largest group in the Parliament.
The admission of Solier and Junco comes after they left the Non-attached Group. However, their party leader, Luis “Alvise” Pérez, remains in the Non-attached Group as his request to join the ECR has not yet been resolved. Pérez is currently under investigation by Spanish authorities regarding alleged illegal funding of SALF, linked to a €100,000 cash transfer before June’s European elections. He has admitted receiving the amount but claims it was unrelated to his political activities.
The ECR group, led by members from Italy’s Fratelli d’Italia and Poland’s Law and Justice, emphasises principles such as opposition to EU federalism, support for family values, and controlled immigration. In a statement, the ECR welcomed its new members, highlighting their alignment with the group’s commitment to sovereignty, economic freedom, and governance reform.
Further discussion on Pérez’s membership is expected during a bureau meeting in January 2025. Meanwhile, Solier and Junco’s arrival strengthens the group’s growing influence in European politics.
