Raimas Vaiksnoras, commander of the Lithuanian armed forces, has announced that they are considering sending troops to Ukraine – reports Index, citing Ukrainska Pravda. “There are various options, but the main condition must be the signing of a peace agreement or at least the achievement of a ceasefire,” said the Chief of Defence.
In his view, the key task of any possible foreign military presence would be to support the reconstruction of the Ukrainian army; in this complex situation Ukraine needs any form of assistance.
“Europe’s security is in our hands. We can act as if nothing is happening. But probably we Lithuanians know best what can happen when no one supports us or we have no friends,” Vaiksnoras declared, referring to the fact that they know what occupation means, as Lithuania suffered it during the existence of the Soviet Union.
