Iran has vowed “crushing” attacks on the United States and Israel following a direct threat from U.S. president Donald Trump. On Thursday, April 2nd Tehran fired missiles toward Tel Aviv.
The assault followed Trump’s declaration that the U.S. could bomb Iran “back to the Stone Ages” if the Islamic republic did not agree to a negotiated settlement.
In a televised address, Trump claimed the U.S. was “very close” to achieving its objectives but warned that military action would intensify in the coming weeks.
Iran responded immediately. Israeli air defences intercepted some missiles, while police reported several impact sites in the Tel Aviv area. Four people were lightly injured. The Iranian military command centre, Khatam Al-Anbiya, warned of “more crushing, broader, and more destructive actions,” asserting that the conflict would continue until the U.S. and Israel face “humiliation, disgrace, permanent and certain regret, and surrender.”
The attacks coincided with Jewish Israelis celebrating Passover, forcing many to seek shelter. “This is not my first choice,” said one Tel Aviv resident sheltering in a bunker, “but at least here, we can ride it out.”
