After taking a few moments to acknowledge the barbarity of Hamas, thanks to footage released by the terrorist group itself of starving Israeli hostages, Brussels is back to throwing scorn at Israel.

More than 1,300 staffers from various European Union institutions have signed a letter demanding “bold and principled action now” against Israel, according to its author Oreste Madia. Madia, a policy officer in the Commission, said she would not be “complicit in a genocide,” pointing—as many critics of Israel’s war against Hamas terrorists do—to alleged breaches of international law.

Brussels workers have been particularly critical about the distribution of aid in Gaza, although they don’t appear to care about the United Nation’s almost complete failure on this front. Despite the agency’s claim that “the vast, vast majority of the aid that we get in gets to civilians,” its own figures show more than 85% of it is “intercepted,” either “peacefully by hungry people or forcefully by armed actors.”

Meanwhile, Washington believes Hamas is so keen to see the U.S.- and Israel-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) dismantled because it works—much better than the UN, at least.

Workers urging Brussels to pressure Israel say they are willing to go on strike to force the Commission’s hand. But four civil servants involved in the process told Euractiv that trade unions have so far been hesitant to back the move.

Two signatories are also reported to have likened Israel’s actions to the Nazis—just as Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk was this week accused of doing—before “immediately retracting their comments.”

Officials within Ursula von der Leyen’s team of commissioners are also understood to be pushing for “far tougher measures,” including the suspension of key trade ties with Israel.
