Swedish MEP Charlie Weimers demands EU-wide monitoring as concerns grow over “parallel justice” and intimidation in European neighbourhoods.

Sharia “moral police” must be stopped in Europe, a Swedish MEP has warned, as he demands Brussels track and expose groups accused of harassing residents.

Sweden Democrats (SD) MEP Charlie Weimers said an “EU-wide monitoring framework” should be established to count individuals working to implement strict sharia rules, accusing them of “harassment, intimidation, and threats.”

Weimers describes these “self-appointed moral police” as “immoral thugs,” and claims they have been “surveilling neighbourhoods,” with the overall goal being that “sharia shall dominate here in Europe.”

Fears of “parallel justice” systems are growing across Europe. In Austria, the governing party is moving to ban sharia law outright, while polling in France suggests rising support for its introduction. Beyond the EU, Britain has been labelled the “Western capital” of sharia courts, where reports claim practices such as polygamy are being normalised for men, daughters receive half the inheritance of sons, and marriages can be ended by a man declaring “divorce” three times.

Weimers believes a monitoring framework, set up by Brussels, should “track the spread of sharia-compliant moral policing, map hotspots, and expose cross-border links.” On behalf of the European Conservatives and Reformists (ECR) group in the European Parliament, he has submitted a request for a written answer from the European Commission.

The Commission has yet to respond.

As a result, the ECR will now “demand” that officials answer “in the chamber at the next plenary session.” SD, which last week celebrated the Swedish government’s scrapping of the term ‘Islamophobia,’ stressed that “the debate will be public, and the response should be clear: sharia and morality police have no place in Europe.”

Another motion to condemn the treatment of women under sharia law was also blocked by the European Parliament last year. The Patriots for Europe group later claimed that “defending women offend[s] the EU elite more than jihadist extremism.”

  1. Sharia Law is incompatible with Constitutional Law of a Civilized Society. The 10 Commandments is the basis of our Civilization. Sharia is a barbaric evil culture that should be outlawed world wide immediately. Sharia is in violation of basic human rights.
