Austria has expelled three Russian embassy staff on suspicion of spying, the foreign ministry confirmed on Monday, with the foreign minister vowing a “change in course” and a crackdown on espionage.

The foreign ministry said in a statement sent to AFP that the expulsions were carried out after suspicions of intelligence gathering linked to diplomatic personnel. Public broadcaster ORF reported that three Russian embassy staff were involved, and suggested that installations on the embassy roof could potentially be used to monitor Vienna-based international organisations.
